In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, Hy Zaret and Lou Singer produced a set of 6 albums featuring songs about various aspects of science. They were wonderful albums, and I remember hearing the songs when I was a kid. Tom Glazer sang on three of the albums, and recently, They Might Be Giants recorded the song “Why Does the Sun Shine?” which was originally on the “Space Songs” album.
Jef Poskanzer has encoded MP3s of the songs on the original albums, and he has set up a Singing Science section of his site to collect the files and provide a mailing list to discuss them.
After finding Jef’s site, I have a brand new set of CDs to torture my kids with on the drive to school. Geek parents have geek kids, so I’ll probably tire of the songs before the kids do.
How did you coopy the music on to CDs? I would love to play these in the car for my kids… right now we can only listen to it on the computer.
Nevermind, I figured it out.
I can’t figure it out.. How do you copy these onto a cd?
I was just trying to copy them and couldn’t figure it out either! I got the message, ” It is not possible to burn this list of files because all of the files have errors or are missing burn rights”. ANY suggestions??? We’d love to make a cd of these…….my son just LOVES them!!!
I had no trouble. Which size did you download? I downloaded the larger size, and burned all the tracks onto 3 cds. Perhaps if you renamed the files? I used k3b on linux to burn, and had no problems at all.
What happened to the singing science downloads? All I get is a screen reading “404.”
I am very interested in obtaining a copy of the Singing Science albums. I used them all the time in my 5th grade science classes. Unfortunately, as of a few months ago they are no longer accessible from Jef Poskanzer’s website.
Could you help me out? I would very much appreciate it. Thanks.
I know, I was very upset to discover that the site was down as well. I found a few of them at

I downloaded all the songs successfully from this link.
